Meet Teresa P. Carvalho, Medical Writer, Clinical Research!

ACADEMIA AND MOTIVATION

Writing has been a passion of mine since childhood, inspired by watching my grandpa at his typewriter. Ever since then, I’ve always known that one day I would become a writer. However, my love for science led me to pursue a degree in Biology and later, three Masters: Biochemistry, Legal Medicine, and Cell and Molecular Biology. While working for several years as a basic science researcher, I realised that science and writing weren’t incompatible worlds but rather a perfect match. This revelation inspired me to combine both passions, using my writing to deconstruct the complexity of science so that others can fall in love with it as I do.

WHY BIAL?

Before joining BIAL in March 2023, I worked four different part-time jobs while juggling a full-time (and the most challenging one I’ve ever had) as a mother. While trying to survive the chaos, I discovered that BIAL had opened a position for a Medical Writer - I didn’t think twice about it. Suddenly, the company I had always dreamed of working for (one I sighed over whenever I drove on the highway that runs in front of it!) had a job opening that was perfect for me. Before I knew it, I found myself working in a role that made me happier, more peaceful, and more fulfilled.

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO WORK AT BIAL?

If there’s one word I could use to describe my experience with BIAL, it would be Empowering - because working here has given me the opportunity to grow, take on new challenges, and collaborate across various departments, allowing me to constantly develop both professionally and personally. The support and recognition I’ve received make me feel empowered to contribute meaningfully to the company's mission.
