Meet Carmen Denecke Muhr, Global Medical Affairs Manager - Parkinson's!
ACADEMIA AND MOTIVATION
As a rebellious youngster, I scoffed at the idea of following my parents' footsteps – Dad, the physicist, and Mom, the chemist. However, I eventually owned my knack and passion for science, leading me to pursue a bachelor’s and fast-track PhD degree in neuroscience. The interdisciplinary nature of neuroscience, weaving together biology, mathematics, philosophy, and psychology… to unravel mysteries has always excited me. While my interdisciplinary interests drew me to neuroscience, they also led me to explore a career in medical affairs post-PhD; here I thrive in cross-functional work, collaborating with marketing, clinical research, market access, pharmacovigilance, or sales (to name a few).
WHY BIAL?
What attracted me to BIAL was its strong commitment to the field of neurology and willingness to give people without previous pharma industry experience a chance. What eventually made me say ‘yes’ to BIAL was an interview process involving diverse, interesting, and communicative individuals as well as a convincing medical product.
WHAT’S IT LIKE TO WORK AT BIAL?
I face challenges in day-to-day business, which are the best learning opportunities for me! Here are two examples: As a Global Medical Manager, I work together with people from various backgrounds, with different expertise and beautifully complex personalities – and I love that! I relish having my ideas challenged and refining my opinions. In terms of work environment, I alternate between travel and home office, which presents the challenge of ensuring all is in order at home when travelling and keeping a close relationship with colleagues when working from home. Fortunately, I have a strong support system to assist with the first task and an inclusive team to help me with the second.
