Production

With an annual installed capacity of 23 million packages of finished product and an effective annual production capacity of around 12.5 million, our industrial area, located in Trofa, Portugal, allows us to manufacture and package a multitude of pharmaceutical items, always with the highest standards of efficiency and quality.

In recent years, BIAL has invested significantly in its industrial area. As a result of an investment of around 30 million euros between 2019 and 2022, BIAL inaugurated its antibiotic factory, producing solid pharmaceutical products, and expanded its industrial facilities – now with two independent units for the production of solid pharmaceutical items.

Together with investments made in logistics, the company has strengthened its production capacity and autonomy in supplying medicines to the different markets in which it operates.

In 2024, BIAL was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a manufacturer of one of our own investigational drugs for the American market.

Our production capacities:

• Solid Pharmaceutical Forms: capsules, tablets, coated tablets and powders/granules for oral suspension.
• Liquid and semi-solid pharmaceutical forms: syrups, solutions for external use, gels, creams and lotions, with bottle or tube packaging options.
• Packaging of tablets and capsules in plastic bottles: with functionality available for serialisation and aggregation.
• Blister packaging: we have four packaging lines available that process blisters of various materials, with capacity for serialisation.
